About Candlelighters
Candlelighters is Yorkshire’s foremost children’s cancer charity, raising funds to support families and to contribute to on-going medical research . When Candlelighters was formed in 1971, sadly very few children diagnosed with cancer survived. Today the outlook is very different. Research and medicine has advanced so much over the years that now more than 70 per cent of children diagnosed with cancer go on to lead normal, healthy lives. And we hope to continue to improve the outlook. See www.candlelighters.org.uk
The Ilkley volunteers
Led by our new chair Peggy Pullan, the Ilkley committee is a group of volunteers who meet regularly to organise fund raising events throughout the year. Coming up we have two supermarket collection days at Sainsbury's in Otley on Saturday 8th October and at Tesco in Ilkley on Saturday 3rd December 2011. Our main fundraising event of the year is the annual Spring ball to be held at Rudding Park on May 12th 2012. Last year the ball was a huge success . With 475 guests the ball raised in excess of £ £44,500 for Candlelighters!

Jaguar raises £3520 for Ilkley Candlelighters
A huge thankyou to Mark the chairman of Jaguar XKEC and all the members who raised a fantastic sum to help Candlelighters. Pictured are three nurses from the ward, with committe member Elaine King who contacted Jaguar, and a rather large cheque!
It was wonderful to see the members of XKEC who made the effort to come to Leeds for the presentation.
